Map of KOA stops

Benbow KOA Holiday, Garberville, California

The whole property is filled with the cutest little cabins. Our campsite was just up from a babbline brook, and the sounds were a much needed lullaby after a long day on the road.

If you end up camping here, be sure you check your distance to the bathhouse.

Acton Los Angeles North KOA, California

Even though the greeter warned us about a nearby lion, we were not prepared for the sad, curious sounds reaching out in the dark. The bath house was the cennter point in a circle campground, so that was nice.

Looks like that KOA isn't open anymore ... come to think of it, I did hear something about a lion getting loose somewhere outside the City of Angels. Can't say if it's the same one or not.

Is this the lion?

Picacho / Tucson NW KOA, Arizona

These KOA owners were the BEST! The bathhouse was squeeky clean, and the atmosphere was an inviting artsy chic. We found some cool stuff in their gift shop and were able to enjoy two nights off the road.

Las Cruces KOA Journey, New Mexico

Las Cruces was another quaint KOA in the desert, but with a less artsy and more corporate feel. Our campsite was at the top of a hill overlooking miles and miles of New Mexico. We were nervous setting up the pop-up potty because the place was so nice, but the bathroom was so far away we did it anyway.

KOA Alamo, San Antonio, Texas

Riding up into this place felt like needing to run home and change because you definitely wore the wrong clothes for this situation. Hold on, let me grab my pearls ... that's better.

As we traveled through the grounds looking for our spot, we bobbed and weaved through a sea of children on bikes and whole families out walking in matching polos. Wet toddlers with swimmies still on their arms ran in and out of the road while their mothers laughed and took sips from monogramed, plastic wine glasses.

We made our way, five miles per hour, Class As on every corner. Class As coming. Class As going. There we were, a compact SUV with a 7X4 teardrop. We navigated those waters like a kayak in a shipyard and avoided all the ducklings on the way.

New Orleans KOA, Louisianna

We were supposed to spend two nights because this was Naida's choice stop. The firey stares we got walking through this RV shantytown should've dried our clothes and warmed us up. An iconic tall, creepy wrought iron fence surrounded the whole property, and for a moment it felt like the start of a horror film. Was it there to keep people out, or was it there to keep us in? I barely slept at all.

See how we really feel about it.
